(ISC)² Chapter Recognition Awards

DEFINITION OF AWARD:

(ISC)² Chapter Recognition Awards are presented to official chapters of (ISC)² within a specific region that best promotes the vision of (ISC)² by inspiring a safe and secure cyber world. The chapter must demonstrate a well-rounded offering of activities and services designed to benefit its members and affiliates, while making a significant contribution to the profession and local community through the core focus areas of the (ISC)² Chapter Program of Connect, Educate, Inspire and Secure.

To apply, chapters can self-nominate by completing the questions below, which focus on these core focus areas. Details submitted should be based on the timeframe of January 1, 2022 until December 31, 2022.

The survey should be completed in its entirety no later than midnight Eastern Time on May 12, 2023. A judging committee will be assembled to review all submissions and select the finalists.

(NOTE: you may be asked to provide additional information and materials during the review process).


FREQUENCY:

Presented to one chapter per region annually at (ISC)² Security Congress event.


AWARD CRITERIA:

Chapters will be judged based on the core focus areas of the (ISC)² Chapter Program of Connect, Educate, Inspire and Secure. Chapters will submit a short essay on each one of these areas describing how their chapter demonstrated a well-rounded program for their chapter members and made an impact in the local community. Below are the criteria for each focus area:

  • CONNECT: What impact has your chapter had in connecting cybersecurity professionals in the local community? Share examples of how your chapter increased connections with members and non-members via in-person and/or virtual meetings, as well as through social media. How did your chapter build relationships with affiliates and what value did it bring to members?
  • EDUCATE: What educational opportunities did your chapter provide members on the latest developments and trends in cybersecurity to earn CPE credits? What was the participation rate for meetings (e.g., percentage of members attended)? Did the participation rate increase throughout the year or from past years? How did you educate and support non-members who are seeking an (ISC)² certification?
  • INSPIRE: How did your chapter inspire the local cybersecurity community? Share details about how you supported students and other individuals to enter the cybersecurity profession, develop leadership skills, give back to the community, etc. What was the outcome of these actions?
  • SECURE: What steps did your chapter take to advance the mission and vision of (ISC)²? What did your chapter do to generate cyber safety awareness in the local community? What partnerships did you form with local organizations and academic institutions to promote cybersecurity awareness? What was the outcome of these initiatives?

BENEFITS:

(ISC)² is proud to recognize regional chapter winners. Recipients of the (ISC)² will receive an engraved crystal award with their chapter name and region on it. They will also receive the following benefits with this honor:

  • Engraved award with the chapter’s name
  • Certificate of Achievement
  • Recognition at Security Congress
  • Full-conference registration All Access Pass for one chapter officer or delegate from each winning chapter to attend Congress (and the Chapter Leadership Meeting/Workshop)
  • Press releases and recognition on the (ISC)² website and other communication channels honoring award recipients
  • One night hotel accommodation

NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS:

For an (ISC)² Chapter to self-nominate for the Regional (ISC)² Chapter Recognition Award, it must be an “Official” chapter in “Good Standing” for more than one year with (ISC)². This means there are no outstanding requirements due, nor are there any concerns or issues being addressed. In addition, all required and updated documentation should be on record, and activity requirements have been met based on the last annual chapter report. Also, the Chapter should be actively submitting CPEs for applicable activities on behalf of its chapter members


SUBMISSION PROCESS:

(ISC)² Chapters self-nominate for the Chapter Recognition Award by completing an online survey via SurveyMonkey with activity details pertaining to the core focus areas of Connect, Educate, Inspire and Secure. Below is a summary of the types of activities that chapters may offer:

Details submitted should be based on the time frame of January 1 until December 31 of the previous year. The survey should be completed in its entirety no later than midnight Eastern Time on Friday, May 12, 2023. A nomination judging committee will be assembled to review all submissions and select the finalists.


SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Chapters must follow the following guidelines when submitting a nomination for the (ISC)² Chapter Recognition Awards:

  • Submissions must be complete and accurate. Nominators may be contacted by (ISC)² Chapter Relations Team to clarify or confirm the accuracy of information provided. 
  • Only one nomination should be submitted per chapter.
  • Chapter winners from the previous year are not eligible to submit a nomination.
  • Chapters must meet a minimum score threshold to be recognized in their region.
  • If confidential information is submitted and the chapter wishes for (ISC)² not to publicize the information, the chapter may indicate the parts of the application that should remain confidential. The information will only be used to judge against criteria and will not be distributed outside of the committee or announced publicly without express consent of the chapter or those entities involved.
  • Members of the judging panel must abide by (ISC)²’s non-disclosure policy, conflict of interest and volunteer agreement/code of conduct. In addition, (ISC)² has a strict privacy policy and will respect all requests for confidentiality.
  • All submissions should be in English. Supporting documents and any material submitted that is not in English will not be considered.
  • Guidelines and procedure may be changed at the discretion of (ISC)².

EVALUATION PROCESS:

A panel of judges will be assembled from the current (ISC)² Chapter Advisory Committee to review the essay submissions and score them on a 5-point scale. There will be a minimum of 5 panelists who will be assigned to review essay submissions received from chapters within a specific region. Judges will not be able to review and score chapter applications from their region if their chapter submitted a nomination.

Nominations will be anonymous and chapter information will be redacted during the review process. Each core focus area will be rated on a scale of 1 to 5, and then receive an overall score. Judges can recommend a specific submission, which will be taken into account during the final review process. An internal (ISC)² review team will be assembled to review the scoring results and feedback, and then make a final decision on the top three finalists, and then decide on the winner based on the top score and feedback by the judges.

NOTE: CAC members are eligible to receive Group B CPEs for their participation in judging the nominations submitted by chapters. The amount of CPEs will depend on the time spent in reviewing, scoring and evaluating. (ISC)² will submit CPEs on behalf of the committee members for the average time spent during this process.
