A new publishing label for indie developers has emerged in First Break Labs. Like the name implies, the studio will help studios looking to take their first big step into the industry.
The studio is headed up by chief publishing officer Alfonso Cubias and marketing head Derek Seklecki. Both previously handled marketing for Sega, along with Nintendo (Seklecki) and Digital Extremes (Cubias).
First Break's first games in production
Like other publishing labels, First Break Labs will provide funding and marketing support to developers. It already has four clients lined up: Entropy Survivors from Moving Pieces Interactive, Lavabird's Warside, Fermenter Games' Baseless, and Particle Hearts from Underwater Fire.
However, their website shows three additional games in David, Spingun, and Neighborhorde. All three come from Fermenter, which indicates First Break may have nabbed the publishing rights for those titles.
In recent years, indie publishing has seen a boom of startups in response to the boom of indie games. Many of these are extensions of already established teams like Bithell Games and Quantic Dream, with the most recent being Innersloth's Outersloth.
In the press release, Cubias said First Break's priority "is to empower indie developers. [...] Our goal is to provide them with the resources and support they need to bring their creative visions to life and reach a global audience."
Along with the four games mentioned, Seklecki indicated First Break had other partnerships lined up, saying it had "even more brilliant titles to announce in the months ahead."
